Xenex LEGO Set

For this project, I was brought on board to design a LEGO model of XENEX’s Germ-Zapping robot: a UV-Sanitation device used in hospitals across the country. The purpose of the LEGO models were to be distributed at trade shows as a promotional item. I designed multiple iterations the LEGO model using LEGO Digital Designer. After approval, I used LDraw to create a 3-D model for each step of the instructions. I then compiled images and added boxes, arrows, and numbers to complete the design of a LEGO instruction manual. Then, with the help of XENEX, I priced out the pieces and printing. After finishing the project, XENEX ordered the pieces and sorted them into bags with the instructions for distribution. I got to keep a model for myself as well.

Original Concepts

With photos of the XENEX Robot, I created four scale models in LEGO Digital Designer. The largest was designed with LEGO Technic in order to mechanize the raising and lowering of the UV light. The smallest was Minifigure-scale so that it could be displayed within official LEGO City hospital playsets. The final design was a variation of the second-largest here.

Instructions

Designed to look like official LEGO instructions, the images of the pieces were pulled from BrickSmith, I used the program to build the model step-by-step. The images of each step were then combined in Photoshop and additional graphics were added.
